Greetings Richmond Emmaus Community,

As we enter the month of March, not only are we looking forward to the upcoming Men’s and Women’s walks and eagerly awaiting to see what God will do on those two weekends, but we are also in preparation for Easter with the Lenten season already started. Lent is a time in which we anticipate the victory of the light and life of Christ over the darkness of sin and death and is often described as a time of preparation and an opportunity to go deeper with God. It is also time of repentance. It is a humble understanding of knowing that we are all sinners, and that repentance is required. Lent is a time to fully recognize our brokenness as humans and the need for a Savior. This time not only allows us to reflect and open our hearts to Jesus but is also special time for remembering who God is (merciful and gracious), what God has done for you (He sent His Son to save you), and who you are in Christ (redeemed, blessed, and sealed). And isn’t this what occurs on an Emmaus weekend when we are reminded of God’s grace and that we have been redeemed, so that we may grow closer to Christ as we walk this life with him.So, as we journey together through this season, we should be reminded of the reality of our broken humanity. But as the days leading to Easter grow brighter, we should experience with greater abundance the reality of God’s redeeming grace. And so, just as we and the teams have been preparing for the upcoming Walks of R137 and R138, Lent invites us to prepare our hearts for remembering Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and resurrection.
