Happy New Year Richmond Emmaus!!
Hmm, Kevin maybe you need to check your calendar.
Well 2020 has been quite the year and many would soon forget it. I say Happy New Year because we begin to observe a new Christian year with the season of Advent. Advent means ‘Coming’ in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. We use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas.
People are looking for traditions, for what is familiar to comfort them in a time of great discomfort. What greater comfort than beginning the New Year focusing on Christ. I know personally it has been easy look in the rearview mirror of despair and what we could not do or what went wrong.
I invite you all to join me in pray and meditation on how blessed we truly are and sharpen our focus to see Christ at work in all things in our lives.
What if instead of mourning “not being able to do this or go to that like we always do” we step out in faith and share the good news of Advent with others we may not have crossed paths with in a “normal” season?
I am reminded of the Body of Christ talk and where it reminds all to BE THE CHURCH not just go to church. Matthew 28:20 says “Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
We have a huge opportunity as we start Advent 2020 and look to disciple and share the good news in ways we have never imagined.
So yes HAPPY NEW YEAR RICHMOND EMMAUS!! We are that city built on a hill and lets SHINE OUR LIGHT LIKE NEVER BEFORE!
God Bless
