The Starfish Story, by Loren Eisley
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said, “I made a difference for that one.”
I first heard that story teaming on RC #14 and it has stayed with me. We are all called to “Make
a Difference.” We have the opportunity to do that with upcoming Gatherings and Upcoming Walks.
I hope to see you at our Aug 11th Community Gathering, which will be led by Richmond Chrysalis. Chrysalis is a vital ministry, and Richmond Chrysalis is in a period of restructuring. They can only do it with our support! Please plan on coming, and invite a friend and the youth from your church.
Also on August 11th, prior to Gathering, Fourth Day Training will be held at 3:30 in Room 103 at Bethia UMC.
Another opportunity is the upcoming Men’s Walk, RE 129, being held Oct. 11-14. Who has God laid on your heart to give the opportunity to attend? You can now submit your application online at http://richmondemmaus.com/forms/pilgrim-application-2/
I hope to see you at Gathering on Aug 11th. Remember we start at 6:00 pm with a covered-dish dinner. Invite a friend — as they say in Chrysalis, “Make a Friend, Be a Friend, Bring a Friend to Christ!”
Take Care and God Bless,
